Low Flying Aircraft Photography

Despite lots of opposition from locals and fellwalkers the Lake District remains an excellent place to spot and take photos of low flying millitary aircraft, planes and helicopters on exercise.

Tornados, Tucanos, Typhoons, Hawks, Hurcules and Merlin Helicopters are common sights during the Lake District outside of the main tourist season of July/August.

Although there are many valleys in the Lakes used by the RAF for low flying exercises, one of the best place to view these awesome machines is Dunmail rise on the A591 between Ambleside and Grasmere.

Kirkstone Pass on the A592 between Windermere and Ullswater gets lots of traffic as does the Tebay Gap just outside the national park, near junction 38 of the M6 Motorway.
